Your coach - Paul Daly

Certified life coach, Paul Daly, has a long career in education as a teacher, an advisor and as a senior manager in secondary comprehensive schools. Having completed a Masters degree in Education Management in 1998 he took an active interest in organisational behaviour in schools, individual responses to change and the behaviour and communication skills of individual classroom teachers and their students.

In recent years this interest developed into a concern for developing the potential of individual members of staff and students. The one to one training and instruction of both adolescents and adults led to Paul qualifying as a NLP practitioner and life coach. He now divides his time like this:

Although he now specialises in the coaching of Headteachers, he also successfully offers executive coaching, general life coaching, career coaching and using his wide experience with young people, the coaching of teenagers.

Paul says:

I have had the privilege of witnessing highly emotionally literate classroom practitioners and students. However, the absence of the skills of emotional intelligence often led to problems of communication and mutual misunderstandings. Emotional intelligence is the ability of people to recognise, understand, handle and appropriately express their own emotions and to recognise, understand and respond appropriately to the expressed emotions of others. It also includes skills of motivation and being able to set appropriate goals.

Working in schools for over 25 years I saw poor communication, lack of consultation and the routine assumption that staff would prioritise their work above other aspects of their lives. The ability to balance work and life without feeling guilty is a key element of a successful career in which the individual feels valued and performs with maximum efficiency. Research has shown that people with high levels of emotional intelligence have proven to be more successful than those with average levels. Good coaching will refine these resources so that people in any situation will be able to perform to their full potential.
